The Doman Method

This is a left brain development method and promotes filling up the left brain with lots of knowledge from as young as 3 months old.

How to Teach Your Baby to Read

I believe that when Glenn Doman developed this flash card method, his major objective was to help children to read at a young age. It was definitely not for developing geniuses. Just being able to recognize words, numbers and objects does not make a genius. A true genius needs to think. In short, the Doman method is just building up a database in the human brain.

Here are 2 video clips which show 2 kids reading at different age. Felicity read at 1 years old while Brandon read at 3 years old. Although Brandon didn't start the Doman flashcard until 9 months old while Felicity started at 3 months old, his parents have very diligently flashed to him plus done all the Doman-related physical exercises. As a mum with 4 kids, I can tell you that all kids are different and they develop differently. Some kids talk first, while some are more mobile. It seems like Felicity is an early talker and I wouldn't attribute all her early development to the Doman method.

When I flash to my kids, I always try to show them the real object so that they can relate. Also, I would ask them to match the word to the object (this works like the Montessori nomenclature cards). When I show them pictures of herbs, I would let them see the real herbs and let them smell them.

How to Teach Your Baby to Be Physically Superb

Brachiation is a big part of the Doman physical program. It improves a child's balance and strengthens the upper torso. Other Doman exercises also involve in developing the balance of a child. Helicopter spin is also a good way to improve balancing.

The Creeping & Crawling exercises were developed by Mathew Newell who once worked for Glenn Doman. He has used creeping & crawling to heal brain damaged children at the Family Hope Center. Later, the creeping & crawling exercises were used on normal children to enhance their brain development. This is why it is so important that the baby must not skip the creeping and crawling stage as it is suppose to stimulate the neurons in the brain when the baby moves in criss-cross motion. You can watch a video clip on how it works.
